Emily Jane Potts Emily died peacefully, surrounded by her family at Carolinas Medical Center on April 16, 2010. She was born May 8, 1950 in Niagara Falls, NY, a daughter of William and Florence Potts of Georgetown, SC. She attended Myers Park High School, UNCG and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee and her Masters Degree in Audiology from Memphis State University. She worked as an audiologist for many years and was very well respected by her colleagues. Emily loved spending time with her family and was devoted to her nieces and nephews. Perhaps her greatest gift was her genuine concern for others. She related to people from all walks of life. She was a beloved friend to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Emily returned to Charlotte in 2005 to be near family when she was diagnosed with MSA, a neuro-degenerative disorder. During her time in Charlotte, Emily was very actively involved in Covenant Presbyterian Church and the church was a very supportive community to her throughout her illness. Emily?s family wishes to express gratitude to her warm and compassionate caregivers, Angela, Mildred, and Mimi (her angles). In addition she received expert care and support from Dr. Sanjay Iyer of Carolinas Medical Center. In addition to her parents, Emily is survived by her siblings, Susan Jennifer Potts and her husband, Mike Mesler of Tallahassee, Florida, William F. ?Rich? Potts and his wife, Woods of Charlotte, Helen Sowell and her husband, Perry, also of Charlotte; and her nieces and nephews, Megan and Matthew Mesler, Will, Garland and Sam Potts, and Alyson, Spencer and Pete Sowell. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28207, or Parkinson Association of the Carolinas, 601 E. 5th Street, Ste. 140, Charlotte, NC 28202, or Neuro-Science Center, Carolinas Medical Center Department of Neurology, 1010 Edgehill Road, 28207.
