Joseph M. Griffin Mr. Griffin, 74, of Charlotte, NC died Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Joe was born March 1, 1935, in Unionville, N.C. son of the late Charles and Mary Griffin. He was a Lt. jg in the U.S. Navy where he served as a navigator bombardier. Graduated from Duke University and Duke University Law School Before retirement he was an attorney with Griffin & Brunson Firm in Charlotte. Mr. Griffin has been Past Master of Keystone Masonic Lodge, which later merged with the Excelsior Lodge. Past President of Charlotte Kiwanis and served on the board of the Salvation Army ARC. Joe also served as town attorney for Matthews and was on the Planning Committee of Charlotte and was involved with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Department. He was active in many areas of St. Stephens United Methodist Church where he was a member. In addition to his parents Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Hall. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Priscilla G. Griffin of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Karen A. Tyrrell, husband Joseph of Lucketts Va.; son, John F. Griffin of Charlotte, NC; Brothers, C. Frank Griffin, wife Betsy of Charlotte, NC, Elbert C. Griffin, wife Carolyn of Unionville, NC; grandchildren, Holly P. Tyrrell and Joseph M. Tyrrell of Lucketts, Va. Jonathan Finn Griffin and Jordan Macy Griffin of Charlotte, NC; brothers-in-law, Robert M Graper, wife Jane of Durham, NC, Richard S. Graper, wife Arlene of Ringoes, NJ and Bill Hall of Mt. Ulla, NC and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2009 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crisis Assistance Ministry, 500-A Spratt St., Charlotte, NC 28206 or St. Stephen United Methodist Church, designated to Habitat for Humanity, 6800 Sardis Road, Charlotte, N.C., 28270
