Stella Katherine Hayward
July 27th, 1923 - May 17th, 2007
"Belchertown- Stella Katherine (Smolen) Hayward, 83, of Federal St., passed away May 17, 2007 at Harrington Memorial Hospital. Born in Holyoke on July 27, 1923, daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Jedziniak) Smolen. Stella has lived in Belchertown for most of her life and worked for 32 years at Belchertown State School as an attendant, retiring in 1985. She loved her family and enjoyed many things such as gardening, traveling, cards, trips to the casino, family gatherings and was an avid Red Sox Fan for many years. Stella was predeceased by her husband James F. in 1987 and will be greatly missed by her children, Patricia Waltmire and her husband Richard of Union, CT, James Hayward, Susan Barthelette and her fiance Denis Lessard, and Thomas Hayward along with a daughter-in-law Cathy Hayward all of Belchertown. She also leaves her four cherished grandchildren Timmy and Kelly Hayward, Stephanie Barthelette and Shaughn Stacy, two great grandchildren Zavier and Aliza Hayward, beloved brother Stanley Smolen and sisters Genevieve Lemelin, Anna MacDonald, Doris Mazurowski, and Vicki Williams along with nieces, nephews, and a very loving extended family and friends. Stella was predeceased by her brother John Smolen. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home preceded by visitation and pictorial tribute from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow in South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harrington Memorial Hospital for their future Hospice Room, 100 South St., Southbridge, MA 01550. "
