Carl G. Schmidt

"South Hadley - Carl G. Schmidt, 90, of Ivy Lane, died on December 4, 2014 in the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke. He was born September 6, 1924 in Holyoke, MA, son of Philip and Erna (Mueller) Schmidt. Carl was raised in Holyoke and moved to Loomis Village 19 years ago. Carl proudly served his country in the US Marines, during WWII. He received a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Northeastern University. Following college, he worked as a hydro-electric engineer at Holyoke Light and Power and continued to work for 45 years, retiring from Northeast Utilities. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Carl served as Elder and President for 25 years, as well as started the churches School. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Amon) Schmidt of South Hadley. He also leaves a daughter Dr. Madelyn Schmidt and partner Dr. Robert Woodland of Worcester, son Dr. Eric Schmidt and wife Dr. Constance Nichols of Paxton, as well as two granddaughters, Margaret and Kathryn Schmidt. A Memorial Service will be held on Wed., Dec. 10th at 12:30 p.m at First Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be Monday, December 8th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church School, 1810 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. "
