Joanne Rose Evans
August 17th, 1929 - October 31st, 2014
"South Hadley, Joanne R. (Carlson) Evans, 85, died peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Wingate at South Hadley. Born in Grove City, PA on August 17, 1929, she was the daughter of Sadie & William Carlson. She graduated Grove City High School and worked at Bell Telephone Co. She was proud to be named Grove City Centennial Queen. Joanne enjoyed giving back to others, volunteering her time to The Barber Institute for Developmentally Disabled Children, the church kitchen and working the polls during elections. She enjoyed gardening, golfing, sewing, reading The Republican newspaper, the many winters spent in Myrtle Beach and time with family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and N.E. Patriots. Joanne loved her family, was a devout believer in Jesus Christ and was very proud of the three family members who are ordained ministers. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 65 years, Jack Evans, her two children, Dr. Brad Evans and his wife Patsy of Coventry, CT and David Evans and his wife Barbara of Ludlow, MA along with her precious grandchildren, Megan and her husband Rob, Brent and his wife Lydia, Brian and his girlfriend Tanaaz, and Eric, and great grandchildren, Brad, Caleb, Nathan, and Geneva Joanne. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, November 5 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial is private.
