Dorothea McCullough Griffin Dorothy, 90, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born September 29, 1918 in Plainfield, NJ to the late John Francis McCullough Jr. and Augusta Elizabeth Perree. Much of her childhood was spent in Scarsdale, NY. She received a BA degree from the College of New Rochelle and M.A. from Columbia University before teaching in New York and overseas. She was teacher/principal for the US Army in Coburg, Germany. Her children were her life and she, their greatest gift. She lived with her daughter Sherry, her wonderful caregiver and was spoiled by her boys who took her on much anticipated outings. She wintered in Key West for many years. Literature, poetry, traveling and nature were her great enjoyments. She was a unique presence of quiet depth, intellect and wit. She is survived by her children, Sharon (Sherry ) Griffin Jones and her companion, Jim Beel of Charlotte, Robert (Bob) Lane Griffin, Jr. and wife Harriet of Mooresville, NC, Nancy Stevens Griffin and companion, Skip Banach of Key West, Florida, John (Mac) McCullough Griffin and wife, Linda, of Charlotte; brother, John F. McCullough III and wife, Pat of Scarsdale, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia (Ginny) Rynne and brother-in-law, Bill. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3, 2009 at St. Ann?s Catholic Church from 9:45 until 10:30 with a Rosary at 10:30.. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.with the Reverend Edward J. Sheridan, celebrant. Interment will be private at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann?s Catholic Church, 3035 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209
