Evvie Geraldine "Gerri" Gordon Wells died at Presbyterian Hospital Main in Charlotte NC on September 7, 2016 due to complications following lung cancer. She was 81. Gerri was born on August 31, 1935 in Fort Mill, SC. Her biological parents were Elliott Gordon and Eva Casey. At the age of 12 she was legally adopted by her mother's sister, Mary Casey Youngblood. She married Johnny Monroe Wells in 1953, they were later divorced. Gerri worked for Whirlpool Corp. in Charlotte, was transferred to Atlanta, Ga. After 5 years there she moved to Knoxville, TN and stayed until 1996 where she retired after 30 loyal years. Gerri then moved back to Charlotte. Gerri is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Renee W and Boyce E Helms, her daughter Karen W Smith her son Johnny M Wells Jr. all of Charlotte, NC, sister-in-law Mary Gordon of Fort Mill, SC. She had 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother Don Gordon of Fort Mill, SC and her sister Sandra B Hinson of Charlotte, NC. Gerri will be cremated and a memorial service will take place at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home at 1111 East Blvd in Charlotte NC www.hankinsandwhittington.com on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at 1:00pm. Joanne Lowery will officiate the service. A reception will follow at the home of Benny Helms located at 300 Union Rd Matthews, NC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerri's life. The family would like to thank Benny Helms for his gracious unselfishness, and generosity during their time of grief.
