"South Hadley - Eugene G. Anderson, “Gene”, “Andy”, 78, died on November 5, 2017 at home. Born October 15, 1939 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Eugene Anderson and Alice Pearson. He has been a resident of South Hadley for over 35 years. Gene worked as a computer programmer for many years at Springfield Gas Light Company and later servicing various banking institutions with online computing. Gene was an active member of the Redcliffe Canoe Club serving as Club Clerk for many years. He was also an active member of the Mount Holyoke Lodge serving as Master in 1985. He enjoyed many hobbies and especially liked riding his motorcycle, cooking and spending time with family and friends. His family and many friends will always remember his good sense of humor and his love for joking around. Gene will be remembered fondly for his good nature and warm company. He will be deeply missed by three sons, Eric Anderson of Wilbraham, Kris Anderson of Monson and Nick Anderson of South Hadley. He is also survived by three sisters, Janet Blais, Ruth Fountain and Leona Inman and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to receive guests at a celebration of Gene’s life to be held on Sunday November 19 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm at the Redcliffe Canoe Club located at 77 Canal St., South Hadley, MA. A time of sharing will begin at 12:30 followed by a gathering with refreshments. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
