Constance "Connie" Austin
December 1st, 1932 - April 27th, 2016
Constance P. Austin, 83, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 27 at White Oak of Waxhaw. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Austin Jr for 58 years before his death on January 12, 2014. She was born in Lowell, MA December 1, 1932, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Peterson. She attended nursing school and began her lifelong calling as an RN, retiring in 1999. Connie enjoyed remembering family, friends and co-workers with special cards for birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations. Quick to knit or crochet a scarf for the homeless, caps for newborns, mittens for warm hands, sweaters for nieces or an afghan for cancer patients. She expressed her love of God through caring for others. Connie is survived by their son Robert G. Austin, III and his wife Linda; daughters, Mary Ellen Frizzell and James; Martha Austin Blake and her husband, Bill; and three grand-sons, Austin W. Blake, Carter H. Blake and R. Trent Austin as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding her were five brothers Paul A. Peterson; Walter L Peterson; William E. Peterson; Frederick D. Peterson and Robert W. Peterson. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday May 2, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul where Connie and Bob were founding members. The family will receive friends a half hour prior in the narthex of the church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Building Fund, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC, 28210 or Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte NC 28204.
