Sheryl Holley Furr
July 9th, 1939 - April 6th, 2016
Sheryl graduated to her highest calling April 6, 2016. She was born July 9, 1939 in Florida and raised by her grandparents, Samuel Linder and Florice Vivian Ward in Ocala. Attending High Point College, she met, fell in love and in Nov. '58, married A. Roger Furr of Norwood, NC. Roger and Sheryl began their family together in High Point and through career, moved to Greensboro and eventually Charlotte in 1965. Sheryl surrounded her life with her love of music and dance. Working at Sears until retirement, Sheryl and her "Rat Pack" group of friends for 40+ years were inseparable through thick and thin. Sheryl and Roger were devoted to family, loved traveling together and with friends across the country and world. Their grandchildren fulfilled each other's joy and love completely. She shared membership with Grace United Methodist and St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Sheryl is survived by her two sons, Michael Furr of Indian Trail and Warren Furr of Charlotte; grandchildren, Joan Furr and fiance, Doug Gallent, Taylor Furr and wife, Cassandra, and Shawna Furr, all of Charlotte. She is preceded in death by the love of her life for over 50 years, Roger Furr. The family expresses sincere love and thanks to Sheryl's closest circle of friends, life-long neighbors, and couples who made her, and Roger's, life complete. A special thank you is extended to the staff and services of Levine and Dickson Hospice House at Southminster for their care and compassion. A chapel service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Hankins & Whittington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, Sheryl will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Sheryl requested donations be made to honor her memory to the Levine Cancer Institute, Carolinas Healthcare Foundation - LCI, 208 East Blvd, Charlotte NC 28203; Levine Cancer Institute Advancement Fund or at GiveCarolinas.org; or American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter St. #150, Charlotte, NC 28204; 800-DIABETES.

At Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, nestled in the historic heart of Dilworth, we have provided families in the Charlotte area with customizable memorial services for many years. Our services are crafted to honor your loved ones in ways that are both deeply meaningful and healing. Our rich history began in 1946 when Irvin W. Hankins and James B. Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
