Sgt Leonard Steven Reese
February 22nd, 1947 - March 4th, 2016
Leonard "Steve" Reese, age 69, of Denver, NC, went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2016 at Maple Leaf Health Care, Statesville, NC. Steve was born on February 22, 1947, to the late Leonard Carter Reese and Rachel Helton Reese. He was raised in Charlotte, NC. Steve graduated from Garinger High School in 1965 and also attended Central Piedmont Community College. In addition to his late parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bobby" Eugene Reese. Steve was in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 serving as a Military Police Officer. He was a member of the American Legion.in Denver, NC. After leaving the US Army, Steve became a Deputy Sheriff for Mecklenburg County in 1969. Steve was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a Deputy Sheriff for 27 years and retired from the force in 1996 as a Sergeant. He was very proud to be a Deputy Sheriff and loved his job. Living in Denver, NC, he had his best buddy named "Dog" with him 24/7. Steve loved to watch the Panthers play football and going up to his land in Anson County. Also, growing up he loved to Shag and listen to beach music. Steve was also an active member of Beth Haven Baptist Church in Denver, NC. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Reese Mims, of Mooresville, NC; and granddaughter, Tephanie Marie Mims, of Mooresville, NC. His love for his family will never be forgotten. Join us in celebrating Steve's life at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service,1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203 with visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Hankins and Whittington. His interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205. Contributions honoring Steve's memory may be made to any local chapter of the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are in care of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, Charlotte, NC.
