"Jonathan P. Geer, 60, a native of Belchertown, passed away suddenly at his home in Boston on January 22, 2018. The son of the late Donald and Priscilla Geer, Jonathan was born in Palmer on June 25, 1957, and grew up in Belchertown until moving with his family to Pittsfield, MA in 1966. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1975 during which time he played in the school's marching band. He also played electric base guitar in a couple of local rock bands and he frequently skied at the Bousquet's Ski Area in Pittsfield. Jonathan earned a Bachelors degree in Music from the University of Massachusetts in 1980 and was a member of the Minuteman Marching Band in which he played tenor saxophone. After graduation, he moved to Boston where he spent his entire adult life working various jobs, most notably at National Sleep Therapy for more than 20 years. Besides his love of music, Jonathan was a movie fan counting a collection of some one thousand DVDs. He was also an avid reader of Agatha Christie mystery novels and had a deep interest in passenger ships, especially the RMS Titanic. One of his favorite movies was "The Poseidon Adventure", which he watched many times, including in French on a group trip to France many years ago. Jonathan is survived by two brothers: George G. (Rosanne) of Derby, CT; and Donald E. , Jr. (Susan) of Pinellas Park, FL and three nephews: Timothy Geer of Bethlehem, PA; Gilbert Geer and Orlando Gonzalez of Santa Clarita, CA. A graveside service will be held in South Cemetery on June 9th. Donations in Jonathan's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215."
