David Eugene Horton, 81, of Charlotte, NC departed this life peacefully on August 22, 2015 after a long hard battle with Alzheimers. He was the loving son of the late John and Christine Horton; was also predeceased by brother, John Horton, Jr. and beloved wife, Betty S. Horton, all of Charlotte, and step-daughter, Donna Stewart, of San Francisco, CA. He leaves his fondest memories with step-children, Denise S. Spicer of Matthews, NC and Kevin Stewart of Wingate, NC; granddaughter, Sarah Stewart of Wingate, NC, Alex and Kim Austin of Fort Mill, SC and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Dave was a funny, hardworking, loving man, who dedicated eight years of his life to serving his country during the Korean War. He spent many years as a salesman in the automotive industry. He loved to converse with people and never met a stranger. He loved the beach and one of his favorite pastimes was the SOS Festival at Ocean Drive, SC. He also dedicated his life to taking care of his family. For many years he was the caretaker and provider for his Mom, his Dad, who also suffered from Alzheimers, and his wife who battled cancer for ten long years. He stood strongly by each of them seeing them through hardships, pain and sadness until God slowly called each of them home. God chose him and kept him strong and we are thankful that God has now brought him to peace and reunited him with all those he loved the most. Special thanks to the staff of Kannon Creek Assisted Living and Hospice of Cabarrus County. Your compassion and care during Dave's illness was genuine and heartfelt. He loved you girls and we appreciated how you made him laugh, took care of him and comforted him when he was at his weakest moments. You are all special people who held a special place in his heart. Thank you! He wished to extend a special thank you to Denise Merritt for her never-ending support, loving care and friendship during Betty's battle with cancer. You became family and he loved you and appreciated all you did and continued to do throughout his lifetime. You were a cherished friend and truly his gift from God. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the host of families and friends that have shown love and support throughout our family's journey. Your thoughts, guidance and prayers have been a great comfort to us. Thank you and may God bless each and every one of you for your kindness. Peace be with you Dave. We'll see you again one day!
