Donald Robert King, 92, of Charlotte NC passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Royal Park Rehabilitation in Matthews where he was recovering from a stroke. He was born in Berea, Ohio on August 10, 1922 to the late Violet Grace Furniss King and Walter William King. He served his country as a United States Marine in the Pacific campaign during World War II. Don graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in 1947 and retired from Hoechst Celanese Corporation as a credit manager in 1987. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a former member of Queen City Optimist Club. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence Ruth Muntz King, daughter Linda King Yarbrough, daughter-in-law, Connie Cox King Liles (Joe), grandchildren, Christina Marie King Bullard (Dale), Daniel Alan King, Melissa Rae Yarbrough James (Stephen), and Jonathan Neil Yarbrough. Don is preceded in death by his son, Neil Alan King; and sister, Dorothy King Wilkinson. The family would like to thank Sharon Christensen, family friend and Don's caregiver in recent years. A service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 3200 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209, at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 with Rev. Sara Ilderton officiating, with a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, P O Box 11063, Charlotte, NC 28220.
