Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home
Tara Winkler Young
September 13th, 1971 - February 2nd, 2015
Tara "Missy" Winkler Young, 43, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday February 2, 2015 at her home in Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 PM Saturday February 7, 2015 at Hankins &Whittington Funeral Home, and will be preceded by the receiving of family and friends beginning at 2:00 PM. A South Carolina native, Tara grew up in Gaffney, SC, but spent the majority of her adult life in the Hendersonville and Charlotte areas of North Carolina. A great lover of the outdoors, she was most at home in the mountains, followed closely by the South Carolina beaches where she spent annual summer vacations with her extended family. She was an accomplished chef, capable of creating a culinary masterpiece out of the most meagre of ingredients, and was a true southern lady in terms of entertaining and hospitality. Above all, Tara had a nurturing spirit; not only was she devoted to her son, but she was also known for "mothering" her friends and family. She had a compassionate nature and was a loving mother, friend, daughter, sister and aunt. Tara is survived by her son Ty Cason Young; her parents Johnny and Ella Winkler of Gaffney; sister and brother-in-law Kelly & Jason Harrison and nephew Charlie Harrison of Memphis, and a multitude of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ty Cason Young Fund at any Wells Fargo bank.

Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
