Jane Ormand Fairfax
May 7th, 1936 - January 24th, 2015
Jane Kathryn Ormand Fairfax, age 78, of Charlotte, NC died on January 24, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Meek Ormand and Leona Ross Ormand. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, where a large number of loved family and friends still reside, Jane grew up and graduated from Kings Mountain High School. After high school, she attended Lees-McRae Presbyterian College in Banner Elk, NC and earned an Associate of Arts degree. While at Lees-McRae, she made more life-long friends. She joined them, at least yearly, to attend Alumni functions for the rest of her life. After college, Jane moved to Raleigh, NC where she met and married H.A. Fairfax and had her first two children Laura, then Paul. After moving to Charlotte, Jane had her third child, Jane Ellen. Jane was member of Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her church gave her a home from which to worship God, and it also provided her with the gift of many loved and life-long friends. For 28 years, Jane was employed by Eastern Airlines; first as a reservation agent, later as a vacation planner. The friends she made at Eastern Airlines were cherished and her friendships with them life-long. After the demise of Eastern Airlines, Jane worked as a Travel Agent making more cherished friends until her retirement. Jane devoted her time and love to her family, church, and many civic activities. She was a member the Eastern Airlines Retirement Association, the Lees-McRae Alumni Association, the Eastern Star, and was a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Jane was blessed with the love of many friends and returned that love by serving as Deacon and Elder of Selwyn Ave. Presbyterian Church. In 2005, she was presented an Honorary Life Membership by the Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). She was her class representative, Distinguished Alumna of Lees-McRae College, and president of the Alumni Association for many years. Finally, she served as Worthy Matron of her Eastern Star chapter. All of these positions gave her the opportunity to return the love and devotion to her friends that they had given her. Jane is survived by her daughter Laura A. Fairfax (Leah) of Pittsboro, NC and her son Paul F. Fairfax (Liz) of Lino Lakes, MN; her sister Becky Etters (Glenn) of Kings Mountain, NC and her brother Lloyd "Butch" Ross Ormand (Barbara) of Kings Mountain, NC. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marilyn Glazebrook and Diane. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years H.A. Fairfax Jr. who died in December 2014, her beloved daughter Jane Ellen Fairfax-Brown, and her brother Joe Meek Ormand. A visitation for Jane will take place on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte 28203. A memorial service will take place on Saturday Jan. 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at Selwyn Ave Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte 28209. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. Contributions in honor of Jane may be made to the Jane and H.A.
