E. Meredith Bauer
August 3rd, 1933 - December 1st, 2014
E. Meredith Bauer, age 81 of Charlotte died Monday, December 1, 2014 at her residence in Aldersgate CCRC surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 3, 1933 in Drexel Hill, PA to the late George Endicott Kilpatrick, Jr. and Ellen Meredith Fee. Meredith is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart Robert Leonard Bauer with whom she shared 61 year of marriage. After attending Springfield High School and two years at Hood College, she married and followed her husband during his 2 years of military service at Fort Huachuca, AZ where she worked in personnel in the Electronic Warfare Department. Following her time in AZ, she returned to the Philadelphia area where she started her family which became her life's focus. While living in Fort Washington, PA, Meredith was an active volunteer at the Germantown Women's Club and Morris Arboretum. She was passionate about being a wife and mother instilling self-worth and strength in her daughters while continuing to be a life long learner, avid gardener, golfer, skier and bridge player with a sense of humor appreciated by all. Avalon, NJ was enjoyed for 17 years as a second home as well as 25 years of chasing the skies in a private plane with her husband. Upon moving to Cornelius, NC in 1998, Meredith volunteered at Lake Norman Regional Hospital and quickly found herself managing the gift shop. During this time she also settled into her new home transforming it to a place of beauty and comfort for family and friends who visited frequently. Her latest move with her husband was to a cottage at Aldersgate, CCRC where she again became an active member of the community volunteering and playing bridge. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters Virginia Meredith Hunt and husband James (Charlotte, NC), Ellen Brooke Berg and husband Gordon (Oakland, CA); six grandchildren Allison Meredith Hogan and husband Paul, Kenan Bradley Hunt, Davis James Hunt, Graham Leonard Hunt, Ellen Haley Berg, Grace Elizabeth Berg; two great grandchildren Declan Brady Hogan and Carrig James Hogan; brother Robert James Kilpatrick, Sr. and wife Danary Pan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother George Endicott Kilpatrick, III (Dick). A memorial service celebrating Meredith's life will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 11am in the Fellowship Hall at Aldersgate, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Meredith.
