Joseph Henry Dillon, III Joe Dillon, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, NC on September 30, 2014 after a brave battle with cancer. Joe was born in Charlotte, NC on April 8, 1930, and graduated from Central High School in 1948. Joe grew up in the Dilworth neighborhood, where he met his wife, Sally Mock. Joe and Sally lived on opposite sides of Latta Park, were married in 1953, and then moved to Texas where he completed his service with the Air Force. He was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base until he was honorably discharged with a rank of Staff Sergeant in 1954. Upon returning to Charlotte, Joe joined General Specialties, Inc. as a salesman, ultimately becoming Vice President, and in 1982 he founded his own company, Dillon Sales, Inc. Joe's work ethic, character, honesty and integrity served him well in the construction industry until his retirement in 1995. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Henry "Cy" Dillon, and his mother, Doris Virginia Wills Dillon of Charlotte, NC. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Katherine Lucille "Sally" Mock Dillon, and their three children, Joseph Scott Dillon and wife Camey of Greensboro, NC, William Mark Dillon and wife Adele of Charlotte, NC, and Jenny Dillon Primm and husband Phil of Charlotte, NC. They have seven grandchildren, Tim Dillon and wife Betsey, Camelyn Gustafson and husband David, Reid Dillon, Christopher Dillon, Mark Dillon, Jr., Jett Primm and Rocky Primm. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles Ronald Dillon and wife, Janie. Joe was loved by his nieces and nephews, Bub, Kathy, Cheryl, Jimmy, Bobby, Beth and their families. Joe liked anything with wheels, a hull, or a motor. He also enjoyed the game of golf and bantering back and forth with his buddies on senior golf outings. But more than anything, he loved being with his beloved Sally and the family on the front porch of their Lake Norman home in Denver. Joe never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved people and valued his many lifelong friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. As a family man, Joe was beyond compare. He was first and foremost a husband and a father. His love, strength and humor fostered an environment of warmth and stability that will endure long past the time we had with him. Friends and family are invited to drop in, visit and share stories at the family home in a casual setting on Friday, October 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at Hankins & Whittington, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC, 28203 on Saturday, October 4, at 11:00 am. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. The family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care-Charlotte Region and Home Instead for their sensitive care and support. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
