"Belchertown - Barbara A. "Rhoda" (Gynan) Whitney, 86, died on May 29, 2019 at her home surrounded by the love and care of family. Born February 15, 1933 in Quincy, she was the daughter of George and Rhoda (Flanagan) Gynan. She lived most of her life in E. Longmeadow before moving to Belchertown 10 years ago. During her working career, she worked for New England Telephone Company and Sears. She was a long time communicant of St. Michael's Church and most recently St. Francis Church. She will be deeply missed by her 3 children Lynn Turner, with whom she lived, Steven Whitney (Maria) of Upton, and Mark Whitney of Springfield, along with her 5 precious grandchildren Christine Beauregard, Steven and Brianna Whitney, and Mark and Brendan Turner. Besides her parents, Rhoda was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson in 1992, a daughter Debra Whitney and brother William Gynan. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the mass from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. (Rte 202). For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the Catholic Charities, 65 Elliot St., Springfield, 01105, or WMASS Eldercare, 4 Valley Mill Rd., Holyoke, 01040 .
