Sarah Beam Bailey Hendrix , 83 of Charlotte, NC died after a brief battle with lung cancer Friday July 18, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born April 12, 1931 in Roxboro, NC to Raymond Graves and Gladys Beam Bailey. She grew up in Louisburg, NC and graduated from Richmond Professional Institute with a BS in Parks and Recreation. After graduating she moved to Charlotte and worked for Charlotte Parks and Rec. She married Charles Howe Hendrix in August 1957. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, her sister, Rachel Bailey Fluke (Richard); three children, Debbi Hendrix Conlon (Steve), Charles Howe Hendrix, Jr.(Beth) and Paul Raymond Hendrix (Sandy); and 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Conlon O'Neal (Austin), Will Conlon (Whitney), Sam, Emme and John Hendrix, Alex, Austin, Aaron, Anna, Audrey and Asher Hendrix. She loved spending time with her family, was an avid collector of dolls and salt & pepper shakers. She also liked reading, knitting, playing cards and games on her Kindle. She was a longtime, active member of Avondale Presbyterian and enjoyed volunteering. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11am at Avondale Presbyterian. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. An inurnment service with the family will be in the Sacred Garden at Avondale Presbyterian Church at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial to Avondale Presbyterian Church in Sarah's name.
