"Granby - Matthew J. Kennedy, 48, passed away unexpectedly on July 19, 2019 at home. Born November 12, 1970 in Holyoke, he was the son of the late James Kennedy and Theresa (Dorn) Hawkins of NC. Matt grew up in Granby and graduated from Granby High School in 1988. He lived in many places before returning to Granby over 16 years ago. Matt worked for Carpenter's Union #336. He loved to fish, camp, was an avid Boston sports team fan and loved reading everything to do with History and listening to classic rock music. His greatest passion was time spent with his wife and sons as well nephews and niece, whether it was watching them play sports or just being with them. Besides his mother, he will be deeply missed by his wife of 14 years, Renee Fontaine-Kennedy, along with their two boys, Collin and Gavin Kennedy. Matt also leaves a stepson, Andrew Fontaine along with siblings, Melissa Bezio and her kids Jacob and Ryan of Gill, MA, Mitchell Kennedy of FL, Jason and his wife Rose Kennedy and children Max and Wyatt of Granby as well as his sister in law, Tina Fontaine and Gerard Keegan and children Hudson and Piper, and father-in-law, Roger Fontaine. Besides his father, Matt was preceded in death by his stepmother, Nancy Kennedy and stepfather, Ron Hawkins, as well as mother-in-law, Claudette Fontaine. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home with a service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Friday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. at West Cemetery in Granby.
