Margaret Scruggs Crum, 92, of Charlotte, NC died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Sharon Towers where she had resided since 2001. She was born on October 7, 1921 in Greenville County, SC to the late George French Scruggs and Estelle Taylor Scruggs. Margaret grew up in Newberry, SC and graduated from Newberry College in 1942. She started teaching elementary school during WWII and would later go on to teach in the Myers Park Presbyterian Pre-school for 20 years. Mrs. Crum was married to the late Herbert Dixon Crum who passed away in 2001. She was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Charles Bowles Sunday School Class and Circle 9. Her hobbies included reading and playing bridge. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Crum was preceded in death by a brother, George Scruggs and a grandson, Jeff Crum. She is survived by her three sons, Dixon Crum and his wife, Barbara of Charlotte, NC, George Crum and his wife, Sherri of Selma, AL and Alan Crum and his wife, Karen of Wesley Chapel, NC; six grandchildren, Laura Rodgers and her husband, Tim, Mark Crum and his wife, Jessica, George Crum Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, Kathryn Hamel and her husband, Mike, Michael Crum and Kevin Crum; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Madie, Wesley, Jacob and Griffin. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bill Roth officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall at the church. Entombment will be private in Sharon Memorial Park. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Sharon Towers for the loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association Western Carolina Chapter 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 or to Sharon Towers Residents Assistance Fund, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
