Georgia Marie Allen, age 58, of Charlotte, NC died on June 1, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Georgia was born in Washington, DC and was the beloved daughter of Margaret Winslow Allen of Charlotte, NC and the late George J. Allen. She graduated from Olympic High School and received her teaching degree from UNC -Charlotte where she went on to obtain her Master's degree in Education. Ms. Allen was an elementary school teacher who taught first grade during her 30 year career. She taught at Derita Elementary, Allenbrook Elementary, Old Providence Elementary, and McKee Road Elementary where she retired from a long and rewarding career in education. Georgia was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church 737 E. Woodlawn Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 for the past 38 years where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed many memorable trips to Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet, SC along with her mother, for many years. Georgia enjoyed collecting thimbles and had a love for animals, especially for dogs. She also enjoyed cross stitch and embroidery. Ms. Allen was especially proud and thrilled to have witnessed Alex Wood, one of her former students, rise up to become a major league baseball pitcher with the Atlanta Braves in 2014. Georgia was an extremely devoted and loving and attentive daughter to her mother Margaret as well as to her late father George, for whom she was named. She shared deep and abiding friendships with many people throughout her life, and will be remembered for her loving and caring nature by all who knew her. She was dedicated to her church and had a deep faith in God. A service to honor and remember Georgia will be held at Grace United Methodist Church 737 E. Woodlawn Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 8, 2014. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Contributions in lieu of flowers in Georgia's memory may be made to Grace United Methodist church 737 E. Woodlawn Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
