Jim Crews Mr. Crews, 83, of Charlotte died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House Southminister. Jim was born May 26, 1930, in Paterson, NJ the son of the late Ralph and Emma Crews. Mr. Crews was a retired Pipe Design Engineer. He served his country in Korea. Jim was an avid golfer, gardener, great entertainer, loyal husband and irreplaceable friend. He had an iron will and warrior like determination which enabled him to conquer insurmountable illnesses for an extended time. He served as an inspiration to many including his gym-mates at Gold's Gym, where he worked out until age 82. Jim will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife of forty five years, Mary Martin Crews; sister, Marion Hopper and husband, Dick of Longmont, CO and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are surrogate children, David and Eileen Bird and his beloved pet, Chelsea. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the mausoleum at Oaklawn Cemetery, 1615 Oaklawn Ave., Charlotte, NC 28216. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Rd, Charlotte, NC 28207, Holy Angels, 6600 Wilkinson Blvd, Belmont, NC 28012 or The Charlotte Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203.
