Mrs. Sanders, 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Knoxville, TN. Betty was a native Charlottean, born on February 28, 1922, a beautiful daughter of the late Charles A. Boyd, Sr. and Cramer Menius Boyd. She was a former employee of Dobbs House Gift Shop at the old Charlotte Douglas Municipal Airport. Her main accomplishment was her faith and that of an incredible mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her loving, forgiving spirit and her enduring strength and quiet dignity no matter what life and health problems came her way. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy & Manuel Canari, Knoxville, Tn.; sons, Chris Sanders & wife, Cherie, Knoxville, TN., Melvin Sanders & Candy Burke, Charlotte, NC; Sandy Sanders, Vero Beach, FL.; grandchildren, Joseph Sanders, Stephanie Sanders, Richard Sanders; step-grandchildren, Samantha & Sydney Schriver; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles A. Boyd, Jr. (Sissy), Birmingham, AL.; sister, Mildred Mitchell, Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, R. Mack Sanders; step-mother, Louise Boyd and half-sister, Dorothy Chaky. Graveside committal service for Mrs. Sanders will be Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in Elmwood Cemetery. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, with visitation immediately following the service. Memorial Donations would be appreciated to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201-0001 or the Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203.
