William Archie Ard, Jr.
July 27th, 1945 - April 25th, 2023
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of W. Archie Ard, Jr. Our loving Father passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023. Archie was born in Greeleyville, SC to Myrtle Hodge Ard Browder and William Archie Ard. He joined the USAF after graduating High School, then went on to have a career in computer programming. Archie worked with First National Bank, Andrews Bank & Trust, Georgetown Memorial Hospital, and BCBS working on computers. In the 1980's, he raised Appaloosa horses and was involved with local Appaloosa associations and Andrews Saddle Club, often working the announcer booth. Archie helped to coach little league baseball in the 1980's, and children's basketball in the 1990's. Since the 1990's, Archie has been officiating and refereeing track and field events of all ages, including Special Olympics and USATF through 2021. After retiring from BCBS, Archie worked at the West Columbia Chick-Fil-A until the summer of 2021. He lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. Dad loved to laugh, his family and friends, South Carolina, Track and Field, and everything USC Gamecocks. Preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Hodge Ard Browder, his father, William Archie Ard, his brother, William Butler Browder. Survived by his sisters, Margeret Ard Moore and Joan Browder Eubanks; three children, Tavia Ard Starborn, Timothy Lance Ard, and Shawnee Ard Werelus, her husband Bill Werelus, and three granddaughters, Kaleigh, Aspen, and Lara. Please join us to Celebrate the life of William Archie Ard, Jr. at the American Legion Post 79 in West Columbia on May 21, 2023 at 3pm. Archie was a member of the VFW that meets at this location and was a long time member of the Guignard Neighborhood Association for many years. Dad always loved the Guignard Neighborhood, so we feel it fitting to celebrate his life here. Please feel free to bring any photos to share, and memories to laugh together over. We are looking forward to love, laughs, and fellowship. You are welcome to bring food to share, or even a chair to sit outside. VFW/ American Legion Post 79 762 B.
