Charles "Chuck" Edward Farmer, III

On June 22, 2023, Charles (Chuck) Edward Farmer III, of Saluda S.C. left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Chuck was born January 18, 1948, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School, Fitchburg. Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army, having been honorably discharged as a Specialist 4. He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1969 and 1978 respectively. He also earned an Education Specialist Certificate from the University of South Carolina in 1998. Further, in 2008, Chuck received National Board Certification in teaching for School Counseling in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood. Chuck served the Gilbert community for 21 years retiring from Gilbert Middle School as Director of Guidance in 2017. During his 29 years as a school counselor, Chuck faithfully and compassionately served generations of children and families in Lexington and Richland Counties. He was also a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, in the Diocese of Charleston. Chuck was an avid tennis player and enjoyed competing with friends. He was a craftsman having built his custom home on Lake Murray. He took pride in his millwork, furniture building, and finished carpentry, all of which allowed him to put personal touches on his dream home. His interests began during his college years when he excelled in his custom framing business. Chuck was always available to assist friends and neighbors with help on their projects. He spent countless hours restoring his vintage Triumph TR3, and enjoyed many hours on Lake Murray. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Way; son, Matthew Farmer of Greensboro, N.C.; step-daughter, Julia (Phillip) Kirkpatrick of Summerville, S.C.; and grandchildren, Abram and Avery. He is survived by his sisters, Renee Black of Kiawah Island and Annette (Don) Gentile, of Charltan, New York. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Rita Farmer. Visitation will be held on July 12, 2023 at Mt. Horeb Church at 1:00 pm, 1205 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, SC. A celebration of life will be held at Mt. Horeb Church at 2:00 pm following visitation. The family is assisted by S.C. Crematory Society. A receptacle will also be provided at the service where written remembrances may be shared with the family. The family appreciates responses in one or both formats. During his time at Gilbert Middle School, it became very important to Chuck that children are never hungry, and this foundation sees to that through the Caring Heart Fund.
