June Irene (Storrer) Whittle
June 7th, 1926 - September 26th, 2023
June Irene (Storrer) Whittle departed this life on September 26, 2023 while visiting family in the Columbia, SC area. She was born on June 7, 1926 in Lamont, Shell Rock Township, Kansas, to Eli Storrer and Clara (Neuenschwander) Storrer who were farmers in a German speaking Swiss community. June was married on February 5, 1950 in Emporia, Kansas to Harold Ray Whittle, from Sedalia, MO who preceded her in death at age of 90. They were married over 67 years. Some of June and Harold’s favorite activities were jeeping, camping, fishing, rock hunting and exploring their beloved Colorado. June and Harold were great hosts who loved to create and share celebratory feasts with family and their many friends. Their lives were a long series of adventures and hospitality, which made for many great memories and stories. June adored sunflowers, which reminded her of her Kansas homelands. She also loved gardening and birds, particularly hummingbirds and cardinals. June enjoyed baking cookies, pies and biscuits, which were much loved by many. Harold and June lived in Winfield, Kansas for over thirty years. During their long career, they owned and operated full-service retail shoe stores in both Winfield and Arkansas City, Kansas. After retiring, they moved to Montrose, Colorado, where they lived for nearly 40 years. In Colorado, they became members of Montrose United Methodist Church, where June was a member until her death. Harold and June deeply loved their family, which now includes four generations. June is survived by daughters, Carol (Elizabeth) (Whittle) Perdomo of Cayce, SC and Nancie (Whittle) Rotherham of Montrose, CO., foster son, Doug Bement (Lyn) of Front Royal, VA. as well as her youngest sister, Nelda (Storrer) Jackson of Tallahassee, Florida. June has 6 grandchildren as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Abraham Hull (Jamy), Tucson, AZ, Adrian (Kittleson) Sandoval Bistodeau (Gavin), Grand Junction, CO., Bret Bement (Hannah), Front Royal, VA., Analucia (Perdomo) Brown (“John” Aaron), Cristina (Perdomo) Kautsky (Alexander), Council Bluff, IA, LTJG Rosamarie Perdomo, USCG, Philadelphia, PA. June was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three of her four siblings. The family will hold a simple celebration of life at some later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to any local home hospice program. South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family.
