Robert Sanders Hornsby, 78, of Columbia, SC, passed away on February 27, 2024. He was born on November 25, 1945, in Columbia, SC. Robert, known as “Bobby” to his friends and family, proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant from 1969-1973. He was a Civilian Federal Employee for 34 years in various departments of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and VA as a Civil Engineer; retiring as a Master Planner at Ft. Richardson, AK. Bobby is survived by his son, Mark Hornsby, daughter, Michele Cornelison, brother, Johnny Hornsby, sister, Trudy Rail, and his grandchildren, Gage Nehilla, Brandon Mathews, and Brice Mathews. Preceded in death to parents, John Henry Hornsby and Ruth Agnes Hornsby and sister, Maxine Hornsby Kirk. In his free time, Bobby enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and traveling within Alaska, Canada, Germany, Japan, and Italy. Funeral services for Bobby will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
