Susan Zuniga

Susan Isabel Zuniga (82) of Brighton, CO entered the gates of heaven on January 18, 2018. When speaking of his guardian angels great-grandson Uriah beautifully stated: “I bet great grandma loves her wings”. A Colorado native, Susan (Susie), was born in Sopris, CO on September 5, 1935. Sopris is now under the surface of Trinidad Lake. She was raised in Trinidad where she later married Joaquin Zuniga in1954. She left high school to be married and moved to Denver where she obtained her GED certificate while employed by the House of Neighborly Service in Brighton. Her husband and children proudly attended her graduation ceremony. Prior to retirement, Susan worked as a waitress in Trinidad and after moving to Denver she continued to work for many years in a variety of jobs some of which included: Candy Striper, Telephone Operator, Housekeeping/office cleaning, House of Neighborly Service, Cashier at Wal-Mart and Office Manager at J. Zuniga Excavating. Through the years she enjoyed many different crafting hobbies, square dancing, reading, gardening, and cooking. Susan loved her friends and family deeply and stated her “dream job” was being a grandmother and a great-grandmother. Her “littles” were her everything! Susan leaves to cherish in her loving memory her children: Julie Ann Zuniga, Joaquin Augustine Zuniga (Glenda), Louis Edward Zuniga (Amy) and Geneva Arlene Miller (Brent). Grandchildren: Bobby Joe Zuniga (Jessica), Nicole Louise Zuniga (Erica), Justine Allison Welch (Joey), David Taylor Miller (Taelor), and Daniel Scott Miller. Great Grandchildren: Joseph Michael Welch, Brooklyn Madison Welch, Wesley Alan Zuniga, Uriah Ikaia Welch, Lauryn Isabel Zuniga, and Jerzi Kulani Welch. Four-legged companion: Buster Brown. Siblings: Maryann Wilkinson, Louise Padilla, Joey Martinez (Jackie), Benito Ernesto Martinez (Mary), Helen Bates, Felix Romero (Tony Mae), Ida Ortiz (Robert), Tom Romero (Joyce) and Paul Romero (Noreen). Numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Susan is preceded in death by husband Joaquin Zuniga, daughter Lois Christine Zuniga. Parents: Jose Severito Martinez and Maria Sorida Romero, stepfather Jose Felix Romero and sister Virginia Lucille LaCrue.
