South Carolina Cremation Society 3223 Sunset Blvd., Suite 104 West Columbia, SC 29169 800-758-9115 Obituary for Gloria Guyon McAulay Gloria Guyon McAulay, age 82, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Providence Hospital. She was born on May 27, 1937 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Mary and Harold Guyon. Gloria was a graduate of Dreher High School, Class of 1955 and afterwards attended the University of South Carolina. She converted her collegiate loyalty to being a “Tiger” after marrying Frank, her spouse of 53 years. She was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. She was very involved in her daughter’s lives and filled many roles in their activities. After many years of volunteer service with Girl Scouts of the USA, she was recognized with the Juliette Low Award. When her daughters went off to college, she experienced empty nest syndrome and sought employment at Plaza Card and Party Shop in Trenholm Plaza. She was a life-long member at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Columbia, SC. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and other social activities. She was a collector of antiques and Christmas decorations, and found joy spending time at Edisto Beach. Her greatest joy was being "Naynay" to her loving grandson Guyon. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Mary Virginia "Ginger" McAulay; grandson, Guyon Carter McAulay; sister-in-law, Kathy Guyon; brother-in-law, Douglas Schmoltze; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank McAulay; daughter, Gloria Dawn McAulay; sister, Virginia "Ginny" Guyon Schmoltze; and brother, Harold "Hal" Guyon, Jr. A memorial service will take place at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 2062 North Beltline Blvd, Columbia, SC 29204 on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 3:00pm. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.southcarolinacremation.com
