June Burnes
June 9th, 1929 - October 26th, 2017
June Florence Burnes of Lakewood, Colorado was born June 9, 1929, in LaPorte, Indiana and passed away surrounded by family on October 26th, 2017. She was raised on the south side of Chicago and graduated from Harper High School where she sang in the choir, enjoyed roller skating and that is also where she met her husband, Bob, after his service in WWII. They were married on October 20, 1948. Together they had two children, 12 years apart. She always worried they would never be close, when in fact, they became best friends. June graduated from the University of St. Louis with a degree in Music. She began teaching piano to children and teenagers, always believing the ‘sound of music’ should be a part of everyone’s life. She also taught the fundamentals and history of music, as they were equally important to the student, and a reflection of a good teacher. In 1972, June and Bob moved and built a home in Lakewood, Colorado. She continued her teaching in the studio Bob built her and played in many local school programs. After 30yrs of teaching, she retired and worked in the accounting field until she was in her mid 70’s. June was a vibrant woman with an infectious laugh, she had many friends and enjoyed being very social. Bowling, card clubs, dancing with her husband at the Elks club, holiday parties, barbeque’s and traveling with Bob were a few of the many joys in her life. They always had a great sense of adventure and family traditions. June is proceeded in death by her husband Robert F Burnes of 52 years and her son, Craig R Burnes who passed in October 2014. June is survived by her daughter, Cheryl L Burnes, two grandson’s Jeffrey R Walters and Justin M Walters, and daughter in law, Dana Morano.
