George Edward Fontaine, Jr.

George Edward Fontaine, Jr., 70, of Lexington, SC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. George was born in Pawtucket, RI on August 29, 1949. He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Fontaine, of Lexington, SC; son James Fontaine and significant other Catherine, of Summerville, SC; daughter Darlene Fontaine, of Lexington, SC; son Christian Fontaine and wife Ashley, of Cayce, SC; daughter Kimberly Raposo and husband Christopher, of Dighton, MA; son Patrick Jordan Fontaine, of Lexington, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, brother Edward Fontaine, of Matunuck, RI; brother Michael Fontaine, of Rehoboth, MA; sister Joan Towne and husband Matt, of Matunuck, RI; and sister Gail Rodrigues and husband Mario, of Seekonk, MA. George was preceded in death by his father George Edward Fontaine, Sr., mother Mary Fontaine, and son Randy Joe Fontaine. A proud veteran, George was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force, at the rank of SGT , E-4. He was attached to the 601st Tactical Control Squadron (USAFE) specializing as an Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Operator. He entered the Air Force April 18, 1969 and was released from active duty on July 11, 1973. George met the love of his life, Deborah, in Sembach, Germany in 1969 and they married October 28, 1971. George and Deborah moved to South Carolina in 1976 and it has been their home ever since. George never met a stranger; he didn’t need much prodding to strike up a conversation with just about anybody. He was always there for his family and friends, happy to share a joke, a cold one, or a strong shoulder, offering comfort and advice whenever needed. He found a lot of joy in being part of his community. He is fondly remembered by many for how he regularly loved playing Santa. He also loved to play pool, schooling many in the game, as well as going to hear Deborah sing karaoke. But, more than anything, George always put his family first. Anybody who would meet him would immediately notice how much he adored Deborah and his children. Services are pending at this time. There will be a celebration of George’s life after the COVID-19 health crisis passes. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Heart Association.
