Beers and Story - South Hadley
Thomas J. Driscoll
September 13th, 1946 - February 19th, 2020
Thomas J. Driscoll, 73, a lifelong resident of South Hadley passed away February 19, 2020. He was born on September 13, 1946 in Holyoke, MA to John Driscoll and Alice (Hebert) Driscoll - Roberts. Tom proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam aboard the USS Independence. He operated Driscoll's Welding Service for many years after leaving the Navy and then went on to become a Millwright out of Local 1121. Tom’s favorite past time was napping, if this was an Olympic sport he would have collected more gold medals than Michael Phelps. The last two years of Tom’s life were spent under excellent care at Daybrook Village in Holyoke where he was best described as a “handful” but was always able to be coaxed with an Oreo or Reese’s Cup. Tom was also know for his Christmas wrapping skills which typically consisted of brown paper bags stapled shut neatly along the top. He will be deeply missed by two children, Timothy Driscoll of Brookfield and Andrea Ronkese and husband Christopher of Belchertown. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Ava and Gia Ronkese, step-brother David Roberts and his wife Ruth of East Bridgewater, MA and many cousins. Tom would have preferred a burial at sea or being shot into space but due to budgetary constraints there will be calling hours held on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Cemetery in South Hadley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Thomas J O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
