Lewis Wilson Jones, Jr.

Lewis Wilson Jones, Jr., age 80, entered into rest on April 19, 2021. He was born on January 17, 1941 to Thelma Covington Jones and Lewis Wilson Jones, Sr. He was known by his friends and family as Lew or Joe, and by his grandchildren as JoeJoe and Opa. He was an avid outdoorsman and archer. He traveled all over the country hunting deer, wild boar, bear, caribou, and anything else he could find. He worked in the trucking industry for over 50 years and logged over a million miles in his career. He visited each one of the 48 contiguous states, Canada, and Mexico. He was a 1959 graduate of Kingstree High School. After graduation, he served four years in the United States Marine Corp. After leaving the military, he began his trucking career and spent the majority of his years employed by Mayflower and Atlas Van Lines. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents (Mr. and Mrs. John Covington & Mr. and Mrs. Whiteford Jones) and his sister, Betty Jones Dargan. Surviving are his four children; Lewis Wilson Jones, III (Caroline Schuler Jones), John Whiteford (Whit) Jones (Kristen Sanchez Jones), Kenneth Wade Jones (Lou Dickenson Jones), and Lee Jones Wilkes (Chad Wilkes). Of all things, he loved his grandchildren: Harley Jones, Madeleine Jones, Haleigh Jones, Parker Wilkes, Cambell Wilkes, and Addie Grace Wilkes more than anything. He is also survived by his loving sister, Doris Bumgarner, with whom he resided upon his retirement from the trucking industry. He had many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 132 Mount Vernon Rd, Greeleyville, SC at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 25th.
