South Hadley-Marilyn M. (Bridges) Halliday, 89, "the last of the Bridges girls", previously of Hollywood St., passed away peacefully on Sunday Morning, January 24th. Born February 11, 1931, she was the daughter of Robert F. and Grace R. (Allen) Bridges. Marilyn grew up in Holyoke, graduating from Holyoke High and attending the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1948. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Harry Halliday. They moved to Owatonna, MN and spent a few years enjoying the Midwest before returning to Massachusetts. She resided in South Hadley since 1976. Marilyn would proudly tell you of her affiliation with Holyoke Hospital "HH" and nursing. She spent the final years of her career working at the Chicopee Municipal Nursing Home and loved her work and patients. She retired with Harry in 1990 and they enjoyed spending their summers making memories in Wells Maine with many friends, family and their grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her two sons and their wives, Harold and Karen Halliday of Rochester, NH and Scott and Ilka Halliday of Westfield along with her three grandchildren, Breckon, Alyssa and Laura and her many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her four older siblings: Bobbie Brophy, June Hinks, Betty Day and Doug Bridges. A private family graveside service will be held at Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke, where Marilyn will be laid to rest beside her husband. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
