Benton Dargan Clarkson

Benton Dargan Clarkson 74, Sumter, SC died October 29, 2021, after a brief illness. Dargan was born in Camden, SC, June 4, 1947. He was retired from BI-LO grocery in Sumter, earning the distinction of being the longest serving local employee with nearly 40 years employment. He graduated from Hillcrest High School and earned an Associate Degree from Lake City Community College in Florida. Dargan loved to read books, especially his Bible, and often participated in Bible study groups. He collected lots of books and Bibles which he frequently gave to others. He was an avid writer always eager to give a copy of his short stories to friends and family. Dargan will be remembered for his cheery disposition and helpful attitude. He loved to laugh at jokes even if they were at his own expense. His Christian experience was an important part of his life from his youth when he served as an acolyte at the Church of the Holy Comforter, Sumter. In later years he was a member of Crosspoint Baptist Church. Dargan is proceeded in death by his parents, James S. H. Clarkson and Frances Dargan Clarkson of Sumter, his brothers Evander E. Clarkson and twin brother Robert B. Clarkson. He is survived by his brothers, James H Clarkson (Mary) and Thomas M. Clarkson (Lucy), and his sisters, Fran Clarkson (Jens Jensen) and Elizabeth Clarkson Long (John). Funeral services will be held at Crosspoint Baptist Church, 2755 Carter Rd, Sumter on November 13 at 2 pm. Following the services, a reception will be held for family and friends at the Clarkson home Walcora Drive. In lieu of flowers Dargan would appreciate a donation to Crosspoint Baptist Church or the charity of one’s choice. South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family.
