Anneliese “Annie” Oldenburg December 17, 1928 – September 6, 2017 Anneliese Oldenburg, of Falls Church, VA, died September 6 from pneumonia. She was born in Bamberg, Germany to Johann and Anna Glock Schlegl on December 17, 1928. She immigrated to the USA in 1963 and married her husband, Randall Oldenburg, in 1966 at Fort Myer, VA. A devoted wife and mother, she always put her family first. She was predeceased by her parents, five siblings, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (George) Bromley of Falls Church, and her sister, Elfriede Becker, of Bamberg. Anneliese was born in Bamberg, Germany, the second child of Johann and Anna (Glock) Schlegl. Her childhood and education ended early due to the war, but she persevered and carried on, as she would throughout her years. Life was hard, but Anneliese was a hard worker; first on a farm, where she drove a tractor, and then as a nanny to American army families. In the early 1960s, she joined the family of Colonel Jay Dawley and later moved with them to Italy. Natalie Dawley and her five children grew to love Annie dearly. When the colonel was reassigned to Washington in 1963, Annie sailed with them to America. On March 5, 1966, she was joined in marriage with the love of her life, Randall Oldenburg, in the chapel at Fort Myer. The joy of her life, daughter Elizabeth, was born the following year. Annie was a devoted mother and homemaker. Never one to sit for long, she enjoyed brisk walks until her early 80s. She was a fan of the “I Love Lucy” show from her earliest days in America and gradually amassed an impressive collection of Lucy memorabilia. Throughout her life, Annie always thought of her family before herself and gave her love to all. She will be deeply missed, most fondly remembered, and ever in our hearts. Friends may visit on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Advent Funeral Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA from 10AM to 11AM, and where the funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Falls Church, VA.
