Paraskeve "“Vivian”" Litis Koumarianos

On December 12, 2016, Paraskeve Litis Koumarianos (“Vivian”) of Arlington, Virginia died peacefully at Fairfax Hospital after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Koumarianos was born to Dimitri and Ekatarini Gounaris Litis in the Village of Seneti on the Island of Andros in the Hellenic Republic. In 1953, she married Anthony T. Koumarianos, a Greek-born naturalized American citizen who has preceded her in death. In 1954, Mr. Koumarianos returned to the United States accompanied by Mrs. Koumarianos. Shortly after, Ms. Koumarianos became an American citizen. From 1956 to 1977, Mrs. Koumarianos assisted her husband and her husband’s brother George Koumarianos, in operating a restaurant, the Apollo House of Shish Kabob, in Falls Church. Beginning in 1978, Mrs. Koumarianos served as a hostess in Tom Sarris’ Orleans House in Rosslyn until that restaurant closed in 2008. She was a great favorite with her customers. They loved her warm smile and friendly demeanor and appreciated her attentiveness. From her arrival in the United States until her death, Mrs. Koumarianos resided in Arlington. She and her husband were founding members of St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church. Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, Theofrastos “Teddy” and Judy Koumarianos of Springfield, her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Koumarianos Howard and James “Gus” Howard of Tysons Corner, and her grandchildren, Vivian Sophia Howard, Nicholas C. Howard, Cristina Koumarianos and Antonia Koumarianos. Also surviving her are her brother-in-law, George Koumarianos, and his wife Eugenia Koumarianos, as well as her siblings Haroula Litis and Costa Litis. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association.
