Robert J. Moffitt, 72, of Woodbridge, Virginia, died peacefully at Virginia Hospital Center on January 4, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 13, 1943, in Springfield, MA, to James J. and Clare (Lyons) Moffitt. Before retiring in 2006, Bob Moffitt served in the Senior Executive Service during his career with the Small Business Administration (SBA). Prior to joining the SBA, he worked for the Naval Sea Systems Command, Department of Navy in Washington, DC. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and pursued graduate work in Economics and Financial Management at Cornell University. Bob found great pleasure in spending time with friends and family and entertaining on his boat. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Woodbridge Moose Lodge. Bob is survived by his three children, daughter Catherine M. Giffen and her husband, Tom of York, ME; son Robert L. Moffitt of Lorton, VA; daughter Anne M. Ampey and her husband, Greg of Lorton, VA; and three grandchildren, Graham Giffen, Cate Giffen, and Cloey Ampey. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at the Advent Funeral Home on 7211 Lee Highway Falls Church, VA 22046. Visitation follows the service until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name can be made to Woodbridge Moose Lodge, P.O. Box 35, Lorton, VA 22199. Memo line: Bob Moffitt.
