Lillian DeClarence August of McLean, Virginia died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at VirginiaHospital Center. She was 88. She was born on May 27, 1927 in Tappahannock, Virginia. She attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and became an art teacher inArlington, Virginia. In 1950 she married Frank J. August, also a teacher, and together they had four children, Frank Jr., Mary Catherine, John and Mark. Lillian worked as an art teacher in Fairfax County when her children were young and then launched her own business as a painter. She became a well known impressionist artist in the Washington, DC area selling many oil paintings. Her oil paintings and reproductions have been used in fundraising events sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society and her work was also chosen by the U.S. State Department for the Art Exchange Program. A unique and talented soul, Lillian loved beauty and nature, but her heart was with her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Lillian is survived by Frank Jr., Cathy, John and Mark, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild and was predeceased by her husband Frank. A memorial service will beheld at Advent Funeral Home 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia at 2 p.m. on September 19, 2015. Memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
