Agustin “Augie” Gomez, 74, passed away at AdventHealth Tampa on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Agustin was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, but grew up in the Mexico City area where he eventually met the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Carolina Gomez (Bermeo). Agustin and Carolina were united in marriage in Chicago, Illinois on May 15, 1978, and shortly after relocated to raise a family in Racine, Wisconsin. Agustin was a hardworking person who worked as a truckdriver for over 35 years until he retired in Tampa, Florida to be close to his grandson, Owen Gomez, and his son and daughter-in-law, Israel and Christy Gomez.
On Sundays, you could find Augie watching his favorite soccer team in the world, las Chivas. He loved spending time with his family but also had a traveler's spirit, wanting to learn about different corners of the country and world.
No pepper was ever too spicy and no “golaso” was ever loud enough. Augie was known to many as a funny, generous, and charismatic person who knew how to have fun.
He will be dearly missed by his children Israel (Christy) Gomez, Caroline (Derek) Gomez-Tom, and George Gomez; and grandchildren Owen Gomez and Liam Adzima. Augie is further survived by 3 brothers, Francisco, Gerardo, and Alfonso, and 3 sisters, Irma, Carmela, and Socorro, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria del Carmen Sanchez Gomez and Jose Gomez, and brother, Victor Gomez.
A private family service has taken place.
