James Lawrence Cowan
March 7th, 1956 - May 24th, 2024
James "Jim" Lawrence Cowan, 68, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on May 24, 2024, unexpectedly in his home.
He was born March 7, 1956, to Homer and Edith "La Verne" Cowan in Torrance, CA. He graduated from North High School and went on to attend Chico State University earning a degree in Marketing. There, he met his first wife, Barbara Thoming Cowan, who preceded him in death. A few years later, through mutual college friends, Jim met his second wife, Judith "Judy" Cowan. They shared two children together, Philip and Gabrielle. Though they did not remain married, they became the best of friends and were there for each other over the years.
Jim loved anything that went fast! Whether that was a boat, a car, a dirt bike, or a go-cart, you could always count on him to be speeding around with a huge grin on his face, likely doing burnouts or donuts.
He was an amazing and loving son, father, uncle, friend, and grandpa. He was truly there when anyone was in need and spent his years doing all he could to take care of those he loved. Jim had recently retired and was so looking forward to spending all of his time getting to be a grandpa. He thoroughly enjoyed seeing his son and daughter as parents.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, La Verne and Homer Cowan; as well as his first wife, Barbara Thoming Cowan.
Jim is survived by his ex-wife, Judy Cowan; his son Philip (Brittany) Cowan; his daughter, Gabrielle (Zack) Riley; his sister, Laura (Mark) Garrick; his brother, Steve Cowan; and his grandchildren, Jayden, Lexi, Izzi, and Lane.
Memorial contributions are not necessary (he would hate anyone paying on his behalf and would sneak the funeral home his credit card if he could!). Flowers and cards are welcomed and can be sent to either Philip, Gabrielle or Judy's homes. Addresses can be provided privately.
Thank you to all of our friends, family and loved ones near and far for all of your support and kind words during this difficult time.
Service and burial information will be determined at a later time and provided once arranged.
