Gene Cornish

Gene Cornish was born April 15, 1928 in Wray, Colorado and died on July 4, 2011 at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, Colorado. He grew up on a sandhill ranch north of Wray, son of Lewis and Lutie Cornish, the youngest of nine children. He married Maralyn Donovan, also of Wray in 1950. After living on a ranch west of Wray for a few years, they moved to Ft. Collins and then to Sterling in 1956 during the oil boom. Eventually construction became his way of life and he worked on many homes and businesses in and around Sterling under his business name of Cornish Construction until retiring. He enjoyed golf, traveling and painting in later years. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Maralyn, one son, Steve Cornish and Colleen Peschel of Homer, Alaska, two daughters, Vicky Oberhelman and husband, Dennis of Evans, Debby Cornish of Thornton, a grandson, Todd Oberhelman and wife, Beth of Aurora, a granddaughter, Lacy Aguirre and husband, Bert, a great granddaughter, Naomi Aguirre and a great grandson, Asher Aguirre of Evans. Also a sister, Beryl Prather of Wray, a sister in law, Shirley Cornish of Ft. Collins, CO, a brother in law, Elmer Donovan of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, a sister in law, Lois Donovan of Salem, OR and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Lewis and Lutie Cornish, five brothers, Dale, Les, Rex, bob, and Bill Cornish and two sister, LaVonne Lockwood of Yuma and Vivian Reed of Denver, a niece Dalene Cornish and a nephew, Del Cornish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice in honor of his daughter, Debby. Cremation has occurred with the ashes being scattered in the Rocky Mountains.
