Dr. Gene Marion Fryar

Dr. Gene Marion Fryar, 92 of Kernersville, NC, went home to be with the Lord October 2, 2020, after being wonderfully cared for at Hospice of the Piedmont, High Point, NC. Born in Wanatah, Indiana, he was a lifelong resident of LaPorte County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Ethel Estelle Osborn and William McKinley Fryar. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his sister, Nona Siegesmund, and his brothers, Robert Fryar and Ken Fryar. He graduated from Wanatah High School Class of ’46 and then went to work at his parent’s hardware and farm implements store – Osborn & Sons Hardware. His sister, Nona, took the initiative and enrolled him in Purdue University, and he graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry 1956. Gene served his country as captain in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1958. While he was serving in the Air Force in Japan, the love of his life flew to Japan so they could be wed. Upon his return he graduated from Indiana School of Dentistry Graduate School, Orthodontics, in 1960. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Janice Fryar of the home; daughter, Cindy Wall and Tim of Kernersville, NC; sons, Brian Fryar and Margaret Fox of LaPorte, IN, and Brett Fryar of Chesterton, IN; eight grandchildren, Lauren Fryar, Ethan Wall and Anne-Christian, Blake Wall and Melanie, Anne Fryar, Alex Fryar, Shelby Fryar, Levi Wall and LydiaFay Wall; one great-granddaughter, Juniper Ostergren; sister-in-law Diane Laxen, and he was dearly loved as Uncle Gene to nieces Lisa Hypes, Sue Groennings, Jane Nagel, Pat Rhinehart, Mary Parker, Jenny Lewis, Jan Jessup; nephews Brad Laxen, Bill Fryar and Hi Fryar. The legacy to his family is an eternal heritage of faith, hope and love. Above all else, Gene was committed to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a visionary Elder, he helped lead the church plant of Countryside Christian Church, Michigan City, IN, 1978. Having served in the Air Force in Japan, he was passionate about mission efforts in Japan and North Burma. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:6 A true outdoorsman, he loved hunting all over North America, was an entrepreneur and certainly had a green thumb. Professionally, he was a life member of the American Dental Association and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Fryar began his practice in 1960 and retired in 2008. His son, Dr. Brian Fryar, DDS, continues Fryar Orthodontics in Michigan City and Laporte, IN. A service to honor the Lord for His faithfulness, remembering Gene will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Michigan City Christian Church, 11232 Earl Road, Michigan City, IN 46360.
