Jacob Orak
November 30th, 1956 - November 2nd, 2020
Surrounded by his wife and children, Jacob “Jake” Orak, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died on November 2, 2020, in Portland, Oregon at the age of 63. Jacob was born on November 30, 1956, in the Republic of Palau, a small island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean. Jacob grew up on the beaches of Ngaraard State where he developed a love for the outdoors, the ocean, and a deep commitment to his family. In 1979, after marrying his beautiful wife, Caroline, and after the birth of his first child, the family emigrated to Portland, Oregon where he started a career with Knez Building Materials Company in Tigard. Mr. Orak would eventually become Insulation Division Superintendent at Knez and serve the company for 41 years. Jacob was a longtime resident of North Portland. He loved to garden in his free time, growing everything from lemon cucumbers to corn in his backyard. He was well known as one of the original players in the local Palauan softball league and continued to watch the games even after the younger players had taken his place. Jacob maintained his love for the ocean and the outdoors and spent many weekends with his wife crabbing, clamming, or fishing, most often on the Oregon Coast. Their favorite (and secret) crabbing spot was in Garibaldi, Oregon. He loved camping as well. Jacob was a wonderful and devoted dad to his two children, Melody and Milford. Later, he would become a doting and loving grandfather to Elilai Imiich, spending countless hours on FaceTime with her and traveling multiple times with Caroline to Arizona. Jacob Orak is survived by his wife, Caroline; children, Melody and Milford; granddaughter, Elilai Imiich; siblings, Hasinta Omura, Sabeth Kyota, Jerome Senior, Linda Orak, Leilani Senior, John Orak, Grace Orak, and Nicky Katosang; son-in-law, Abel Ramarui; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jacob is preceded in death by his parents, Hambret Senior and Duyang Orak. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, a public memorial will not be held. For more information, please email [email protected].
