Elizabeth Hedgecock
September 19th, 1923 - January 31st, 2013
High Point-Elizabeth Pendry Hedgecock, 89, longtime High Point, NC resident passed away January 31, 2013. Born in High Point, NC, she was one of three children born to the late Bob and Ruby Weston Pendry. Raised in Sandy Ridge and Deep River, she was a graduate of Jamestown High School in North Carolina, Class of 1940. She attended Jones Business School for the two year bookkeeping program. Elizabeth and J.S. Hedgecock were married in 1942. They were best friends throughout their 51 years of marriage. While raising her children, she was active as a 4-H leader, PTA president, Home Demonstration Club member, Girl Scout leader and Methodist Woman's Club member. The Hedgecock name was synonymous with building supplies and fine millwork since 1928. Elizabeth joined J.S. in the daily operation of the business in 1968. In 1998, she became president of Hedgecock Builders Supply Company of Greensboro and retired in 2005 at the age of 81. She was raised in the Deep River Friends Meeting House of the Quaker Church in the Deep River Community. She, J.S. and children were longtime members of Lebanon United Methodist Church in High Point, NC. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, J. S. Hedgecock, Jr., who passed away in 1994, sister, Joyce Smith and brother, Dallas Pendry. She leaves behind, her children, Jane Hedgecock, Yulee, FL, Anne Owsley (Mike), Fernandina Beach, FL, James Hedgecock (Elizabeth), Colfax, NC, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces, and nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be at 5:00 pm on Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home, Fernandina Beach, FL, with Pastor Rob Goyette officiating. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 4:00 pm until the hour of service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church, High Point, NC with Reverend Drew Hellams and Larry Rayle officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Mrs. Hedgecock will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Tim James officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast FL, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or Island Art Association, Children Art Programs, 18 North 2nd Street Fernandina Beach, FL 32034, or the charity or church of one's choice.
