A celebration of life service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Jefferson House, next to the funeral home. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 13, 1942, he was the son of Dorothy Brightman and Milton Goldman. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; his father, Milton; his step-father, Joe; his brother, Louis; and his sister, Cindi. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Catherine; his brother, Jan; his five children, Lisa, Michael, Judi, Justin (Wendy), and Samantha (Heather); by his two granddaughters, Nichole and Amanda; many loving nieces and nephews, his extended family, and his cherished dog, Chester. Sam earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Boise State University and retired from the military after 20 years of service: 4 in the Marines and 16 in the Air Force. He later worked in management and government as a civilian. Sam's personality was larger than life, and his laughter and jokes kept our spirits high and our hearts full. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Sam loved sports, especially his beloved New York Yankees and New York Giants. He enjoyed music and reading, and loved his family more than life itself. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Heart Association.
