Carol "Marshall" Nelson

Carol Nelson 79, crossed over to a better land in Heaven on Friday September 16, 2016 at Piney Grove Nursing Home. Born September 20, 1936 in Greensboro, NC to the late Cabel and Pauline Marshall. Preceded her in death is a son, Roger Lee Nelson, Jr.; Sister, Mary Ruth Holder and brother, Jimmy Marshall. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday September 18, 2016, 3:00pm at Friends Church, Main Street, Kernersville, NC 28284. Officiating will be Dr. Jerry Gibbons and Dr. Vernon Farrington. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 prior to the service on Sunday. Burial will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery, Kernersville, NC. Survived by loving husband of 59 years, Roger L. Nelson, Sr.; son, David Nelson and wife Sherri of King, NC; Grandchildren; Matthew Nelson of Houston,Tx.; Michael Nelson and wife, Sydney of Knoxville, Tn. ; Glenn and Dalton Nelson of King, NC; sister, Brenda Beeson of Kernersville, NC. Carol’s first job after graduating from Kernersville High School in 1955 was at Pinnex Drug Store working at the soda fountain. This is where she met her husband, Roger. She also worked at Southern Silk Mill, Brown Rogers Dixon, Allied Tool and Northwest Guilford Senior and Middle School where she retired in 1997 after 25 years of service. During her high school years she was a star basketball player. Carol played center forward on an undefeated team for 2 years. Carol enjoyed watching basketball and baseball live or on TV throughout her life. Carol was very competitive, she always wanted to win and felt the same way with her family. She was also accomplished salt water fisherman, her greatest love though was her grandchildren.
