Gary Lee Goodman, Sr, 61, passed away January 20, 2016. A gathering of friends and family will be held to celebrate his life from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday January 27 at Pierce Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel. Gary was born in Paw Paw, Michigan and was raised in Cloverdale, Alabama. He is the son of the late Marian Phyllis Taylor and Herschel Lee Goodman. In 1972 Gary began serving the United States army until his retirement in 1992. Some of his hobbies included woodworking and model cars. Gary was an active participant in Native American Pow Pows, especially those of the Cherokee Tribe. The mountains were a place where he felt very much at home. In addition, to his parents he was also preceded in death by his younger brother Kenneth Herman Goodman. Survivors include daughter Kimberly Lynn Lawson and Andy of Walkertown; son Gary Lee Goodman, Jr. of Greensboro; sisters Linda Lavon Goodman of Pekin, Il, Rebecca Lynn Sorensen of Morton, Il, Brenda Gale Goodman of Boulder, Co; brother Robert Herschel Cloverdale, Al; a special friend of the family Erica Davis; and many other extended family and friends.
